Good to know
Tips before you start
- A flat base is everything. Large tiles show every bump underneath.
- Rectangular tiles look best in a third offset, which hides the slight bow in long tiles.
- Wood-effect porcelain gives the look of timber with none of the water worries.
Questions
Can you tile over floorboards?
Yes, once they're overboarded or covered with a decoupling membrane, so movement in the timber doesn't crack the tiles.
How soon can I walk on a new floor?
Usually the next day for light use. Heavy furniture and appliances go back once the grout has fully set.
